DORECO was organized and registered with the National Electrification Administration (NEA) on December 30, 1977 as a non-stock,non-profit,non-political and member-owned electric cooperative by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 269. On August 13, 1980, the National Electrification Commission issued a Certificate of Franchise to the DORECO to operate an electric light and power service wihin the province of Davao Oriental for a period of fifty (50) years.
PROFILE OF DAVAO ORIENTAL
The province of Davao Oriental,the DORECO's area coverage is composed of eleven(11) municipalities and grouped into two namely: Gulf Towns(Mati-Capital Town),Lupon,Banaybanay,San isidro,Gov. Generoso and the Coastal Towns(Tarragona,Manay,Caraga,Baganga,Cateel,Boston The province lies in the southern section of Mindanao. Bounded by the Pacific Ocean in the east, by Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur on the North, by Davao Province on the west (DANECO's franchise area), and by the Davao gulf and Celebes Sea on the South. Except for the Capital town of Mati,which is located in the Pujada bay, the gulf towns are all within the Davao Gulf. The coastal towns are all facing the Pacific Ocean. Extensive mountain ranges with uneven distribution of plateaus,extensive swamps and lowland, characterize the topography of the province. It is also richly endowed with navigable rivers and beautiful beaches which are potentials for world-class tourist destinations. The province has an all year-round fair weather Endowed with fertile soil, the province is principally agriculture based. Copra is its major crop which is derived from coconut. Other crops include rice, corn, coffee and cacao, abaca,fruits, vegetables and falcata woods are other sources of income. The Visayan speaking people predominate the population. The Dabawenos rank the second. The third are a combination of the Mandayan natives. the Tagalogs, the Ilocanos and some from Luzon native tongues.
